Fire alarms
For your safety and wellbeing, our fire detection system continuously monitors the atmosphere for smoke. It is highly effective so in addition to actual smoke from a fire, there are a number of other elements that can set it off. We have provided some tips to help prevent false fire alarms.

What sets it off and how to prevent it
- Cigarette smoke – smoking is not allowed in any area of the building
- Aerosols sprays, incense, candles – avoid using aerosols near detectors and please refrain from using candles or burning incense
- Shower steam – please remember to close your bathroom door while showering
- Cooking – open your kitchen/lounge windows when cooking, clean appliances to stop debris from burning and causing excess smoke, use your kitchen exhaust fan/rangehood when cooking, refrain from using appliances like toasters, kettles and rice cookers in share apartment bedrooms
How to manage a false alarm
Each STUDIO apartment has a fire alarm acknowledgement button located on the wall near your kitchen or in the hallway of your apartment. We have provided detailed instructions on the procedure to follow if you activate the smoke detector.
Smoke detectors can be activated due to numerous causes such as smoke, steam, deodorant, incense, vapour and other things. When a smoke detector goes into alarm a sounder will be activated. If it is a false alarm, you will need to follow these steps:
Step 1
Once the alarm sounds and if it is a false alarm, you have 60 seconds to press the acknowledgement button which is situated next to your kitchen or in the hallway of your apartment. Please be aware the Alarm Acknowledgement Button can only be used once per alarm. If a thermal detector is activated the Alarm Acknowledgement Button will not stop the alarm from sounding.
Step 2
After the button is pushed you have 90 seconds to clear the smoke from the apartment. This includes opening all windows and turning all fans on in an attempt to clear the smoke. Do not attempt to open the front door of the apartment to remove the smoke as this will instantly send the building into emergency evacuation.
Step 3
At the 90 second mark the detector will re-test the air and if the smoke is still present the building alarm will sound and the building will go into emergency evacuation with the fire brigade automatically called out. When the fire brigade is called out, there is minimum charge of $1,725 invoiced to lglu. Each fire activation is Investigated and the circumstances of the incident will be reviewed with the charges passed onto you if management deems it is applicable.
Note: The charge will be subject to any increases made by the fire brigade in their invoice to us.
